Top 3 Best Ottawa Coffee Roasters (Canadian Coffee Roastery)
Canada’s capital city has some excellent baristas and cafés, and naturally, excellent coffee breweries. After trying a bunch of beans at home (usually with my V60 or AeroPress), these are the top 3 picks I recommend you try!
If you want more review and suggestions of Canadian Coffee Roasters, be sure to check out my other posts:
1. Morning Owl coffee Roasters
Location: Ottawa, ON
Café: 1047 Canadian Shield Ave, Kanata, ON
I discovered Morning Owl Coffee Roasters in the spring of 2020 (one good thing to have come out of such a tumultuous year…).
This roastery (and coffee shop) is a locally-run franchise in Kanata. They offer direct trade and organic coffee at respectable prices.
The most recent bag of beans I tried from them was a medium roast. Now, while I usually prefer light roasts, I found their version very palatable, and flavourful.
Morning Owl also has helpful and friendly customer service, and ship in a timely manner. This is a definitely a pick worth trying to brew at home!
For consistency and high quality beans, Morning Owl is a safe choice.
2. Little victories coffee roasters
Location: Ottawa, ON
Café: 801 Bank St, Ottawa
Finding little victories everyday is a great way to feel grateful… and the beans served by Little Victories are definitely worth appreciating!
This independent coffee roastery focuses on quality, and ethically sourcing their coffee. Their ethos is that building relationships in the coffee community (amongst all levels) is the key to coffee that’ll benefit everyone. Clearly, that’s working!
Owned by a talented duo - one coffee roaster, and one barista - their vision is clear, and their beans are delicious.
Their “Ethiopia Asefa Beraso (Natural)” is by far a favourite of mine.
For one of Ottawa’s - and dare I say it, Canada’s - best coffee roasters, give Little Victories a go!
3. Happy Goat Coffee Company
Location: Ottawa, ON
Café: 317 Rue Wilbrod Street, Ottawa
I’m going to do my best to refrain from any G.O.A.T. puns in this review, but Happy Goat Coffee Company does make me as happy as a… goat (darn… I tried).
This coffee roastery derives it’s name from an old legend about a goatherd named Kaldi.
Happy Goat Coffee Company creates coffee beans that taste great, in a variety of complex flavours. One of the keys to their success is that they don’t pick any old beans - they take the time to visit the company from which they source their goods, and create relationships with the farmers.
On top of the quality of the beans themselves, Happy Goat also support many local initiatives and artists in Ottawa. Give it a try if you like to support your community whilst you enjoy a good cup of joe!
