São Jorge Castle - Panoramic Views of Lisbon
Fact: Lisbon is gorgeous.
Another fact: Gorgeous cities should be seen in their entirety.
And another fact: Seeing a city in its entirety is easily done with a panoramic view.
But… where should we go to obtain that view? Well, if you’re in Lisbon, why not try out São Jorge Castle?
This Moorish Castle atop the highest hill in Lisbon gifts those willing to walk up the winding roads with fantastic panoramic views of the historic city centre below. Red-tinged roofs and an expansive sea amuse the eye.
This particular citadel is a major draw as it can be seem from many different areas of Lisbon. There are also peacocks that roam around the grounds.
I was fortunate that although rain was on the menu for that day, I wasn’t served it until later that evening. That left me with spectacularly clear (although cloudy) views of the city below.
The citadel includes many beautiful buildings and vantage points.
The walk throughout the town up until the vantage point is quite interesting and provides lot’s of visual stimulation. Do bring along some good walking shoes to evade your feet yelling at you after the uphill trek!
Feel dab, ain’t looking’ drab.
If you don’t mind a bit of walking, it definitely is worth it to visit São Jorge Castle. Apart from the fantastic panoramic views, it is interesting to explore the old citadel, and marvel at the old Moorish architecture.
